Example setups
Ready setups - starting with the simplest one. Find the one that looks most like your station and set it up the same way.
radio cablethe program uses OmniRigthe program connects to a port (Hamlib)
A. One radio, Windows, WSJT-X - through OmniRig
- RigAndLog: RIG (TRX) configuration - only OmniRig ticked. ≡ on the upper row → Rig 1. Lower row hidden.
- WSJT-X: Settings → Radio, Rig = OmniRig Rig 1, PTT Method = CAT.
B. One radio through HamlibStarter, WSJT-X on Rig 0
- HamlibStarter: Rig 1 = your radio, Rig 0 on port 4532, Rig 1 selected.
- RigAndLog: RIG (TRX) configuration → Hamlib + HamlibStarter client (Rig 1-4); ≡ on the upper row → HamlibStarter Rig 1.
- WSJT-X: Rig = Hamlib NET rigctl, Network Server =
127.0.0.1:4532, PTT Method = CAT. - The “everything always together” version: RigAndLog on Rig 0 too - Hamlib client (address:port) =
127.0.0.1:4532.
C. Two radios: the log on one, FT8 on the other (independently)
- HamlibStarter: Rig 1 = FTDX101D, Rig 2 = IC-705, Rig 2 selected (this radio goes to WSJT-X).
- RigAndLog: HamlibStarter client, ≡ on the upper row → Rig 1. The MAIN also switches Rig 0 for other programs option is off.
- Want to see both radios? ≡ → Show SUB, on the lower row → Rig 2. WSJT-X keeps working on the IC-705.
D. Two radios, WSJT-X follows the radio of the upper row
After you choose Rig 2 in the upper row, RigAndLog asks HamlibStarter to switch Rig 0 - just as if you clicked “Rig 2” in HamlibStarter.
- As in C, but in the Rig - radio sources window tick MAIN also switches Rig 0 for other programs.
- Changing the radio in the upper row (≡ or “MAIN ⇄ SUB radio”) switches Rig 0 - WSJT-X works on the same radio.
- The lower row never switches Rig 0. Do not change the radio in the upper row while WSJT-X is transmitting.
E. Split - one or two radios
Split on two radios: MAIN receives the DX, SUB transmits and follows MAIN (SUB = MAIN + offset, here +2 kHz).
- One radio: click Split → On the same radio → +2. The radio goes into split: receive 14 025 on VFO A, transmit 14 027 on VFO B - shown in the SUB row. Turn the dial - VFO B stays; a spot, BAND or Mem moves both (VFO B = VFO A + 2).
- Two radios: ≡ on the upper row → the first radio (e.g. Rig 1), ≡ → Show SUB, ≡ on the lower row → the second radio (e.g. Rig 2). Split → On two radios → +2: MAIN receives the DX on 14 025, SUB transmits on 14 027 (the TX button keys the SUB radio).
- Split switched on with the SPLIT button on the radio is shown as manual - you set VFO B in the radio or in the SUB row.
F. Linux (Wine)
- OmniRig is off - even with a configuration brought over from Windows.
- The radio through Hamlib: HamlibStarter (Rig 1-4; in the Hamlib library window point to the Linux
rigctld, e.g./usr/bin/rigctld) or your ownrigctldand the Hamlib client (address:port). - The help pages open in the Linux web browser.
