Transmitting (TX)

The most important rule: RigAndLog switches off only the transmission it switched on itself. It will not interrupt your transmission from the microphone or a transmission from another program, e.g. WSJT-X.

How to transmit from RigAndLog

TX keyboard shortcut

Rig window → Menu → Configure keyboard shortcut for TX:

  1. Tick Enable keyboard shortcut and choose the Key (optionally with ALT, CTRL, SHIFT).
  2. Choose how it works: TX when pressed, RX when released (like a PTT button) or Each press toggles TX/RX.
  3. The Set a global hook for the shortcut option makes the shortcut work also when you are working in another program. Without it, it works only in the Rig window and in the log.

When you switch transmit on with the key in the log, a small red TX button appears in the corner of the screen - clicking it ends the transmission.

The Rig window must be open - when it is hidden, the key does not switch transmit on. If, in the “TX when pressed” mode, the program window loses focus while the key is held down, the program goes back to receive at once (it would not notice the key being released any more).

When the program switches to receive (RX) by itself

TX time limit

Rig window → Menu → TX time limit: 1, 3, 5 (default) or 10 minutes, or off. When a transmission switched on from RigAndLog lasts longer, the program switches the radio to receive - in case of a stuck key or a forgotten button.

The red TX button

The TX button turns red when the radio of the active row transmits - also when it transmits from the microphone or from WSJT-X (the program reads this from the radio). The TX mark in each row shows the same for its radio.

What the program will not do: it will not switch off a transmission it did not switch on itself - not when connecting to the radio, not when closing, not after a crash. If the radio was left transmitting by another program, switch it off on the radio or click the red TX button.

The program cannot protect you against a computer freeze or a power failure. That is why you should set TOT (time-out timer) in the radio - the radio stops transmitting by itself after the set time.
