QRZ

QRZ.com is a database of radio amateurs. The program takes the other operator's name, QTH, locator, e-mail, country and picture from it, and with a paid account it also uploads and downloads your log. QRZ is not required - without it you enter the data by hand.

Free and paid accounts

Configuration

  1. Configuration (F11) → QRZ page. Tick Get data from QRZ.
  2. Enter the QRZ User Name (usually your callsign) and the QRZ Password.
  3. Do you have a paid subscription and want to upload QSOs to the QRZ logbook? Enter the QRZ Api Key - you find it on QRZ.com in your logbook settings.
  4. Free account? Tick I have a free account. - see below.
  5. Click Check QRZ username and password. The program shows whether the login worked.

QRZ → Settings page

QRZ in the LogBook window

After you type a callsign and pause for a moment, the program queries QRZ and fills in the empty fields of the other station. The QRZ button on the left of the window opens a menu:

Below the other station's data there is also a Query QRZ button. In the list (right-click) - Show on QRZ.com opens the station's page in the browser.

Free account - data from the web page

For free accounts the program can read the station data from the QRZ page shown in a small browser window (needs the WebView2 component - when it is missing, an install button appears in the configuration). With Open web pages (QRZ www) in the system browser ticked (QRZ configuration page) the QRZ page opens in the system browser instead of a window in the program.

  1. In the configuration tick I have a free account. and Clicking the Query QRZ button opens a web browser to get data. The Try to get data from the web page automatically option copies the data by itself once the page loads.
  2. The first time, log in to QRZ in the QRZ web page window (user name, password and code, if you use two-step verification). The browser remembers the login.
  3. If the data is not copied by itself, click Get data from loaded page. The program shows what it found and fills in only the empty fields.

Too many queries in a short time may make QRZ refuse data for a while, and automatic retrieval is paused. Then use the button by hand. Bulk updates (e.g. the whole log) need a paid account.

Uploading QSOs to the QRZ logbook

With an API key you can upload QSOs to the QRZ logbook: manually (Apply and send LogBook to QRZ in the configuration or Menu → Send LogBook to external services (QRZ etc.)), when closing the program or in the background on a schedule - see LoTW, HrdLog, Club Log. Uploaded QSOs have a ✓ in the QRZ column.

Overwriting QSOs in the QRZ logbook

When a QSO is already in the QRZ logbook, sending it again does not change it - this protects against accidentally overwriting changes made on QRZ or in other programs. The QRZ → Advanced page lets you change this (Allow overwriting QRZ records (for advanced users)), but then sending replaces the whole entry on QRZ. The option works only for manual uploads; you enable it at your own risk.

Downloading QSOs from QRZ

Menu → Download QSOs from QRZ (or Download all records from QRZ in the configuration) reads QSOs from your QRZ logbook - e.g. to move a log from another program or to update confirmations. Needs a paid subscription and an API key. You choose the date range (all, from the last LogBook date, one day, a range) and the target: Add QSOs to current LogBook or Create new LogBook. QSOs already in the log are updated (e.g. the confirmation status), not duplicated. The function is not available in contest mode.

Filling in data for many QSOs

QRZ data for many QSOs at once (e.g. after importing an old log) is fetched in the QSO edit window: Advanced → Query all - List and QSO editing.
